You can’t accuse the Peter Auto organisation of stagnating.  Always innovating and mixing things up, Peter Auto has announced that the 2024 season will see the creation of two new  grids:  the Classic Touring Challenge and The  Gentlemen Challenge.  Also, there is a change to the previously published calendar.

First of the new series will be for pre-1966 Touring Cars starting with cars from the British  Saloon Car Championship created in 1958 and then the European Touring Championship (ETCC) from 1963 onwards.

The second new series will be known as the Gentlemen Challenge and is open to cars that marked the great endurance events of the 1950s and the early 1960s.  Respect and fair play being the watchwords of these gentlemen drivers, the field will offer a rare opportunity to race the iconic GTs and prototypes from the golden age of Maserati, Ferrari, Jaguar, Lotus, Porsche etc.

New Events too

Unfortunately, due to long-term renovation works at the Budapest circuit, the originally-scheduled Hungaroring Classic cannot now run in 2024, but it will be replaced by two new events.  The first is on the non-permanent Vila Real circuit in Portugal and the second is a curtain-raiser to the legendary CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa.

The  quick,  technical, 4.8km Villa Real city circuit will host the Classic Endurance Racing 1 & 2 (under 2 litres only) and the Trophée Legende grid of pre-war cars in a unique opportunity to race these cars on the mythical city circuit on 28-30 June.

Likewise, the Heritage Touring Cup and the GTs of the Endurance Racing Legends will have the chance to open the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa on 27- 30 June.  Organised as part of the SRO Motorsports Group championships  since 2001, this race is now the flagship  event of the GT3 championship.

Special event for CER I And II

On June 10th of this year, the Qatari Automobile Federation unveiled the official name of the Tour of Qatar, the inaugural race of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship.  The race will be called the Qatar 1812 km, the date of the State of Qatar’s National Day, which is celebrated on 18th December every year.  As previously announced, the Classic Endurance Racing 1 and 2 grids will have their season-opener at the Losail International Circuit Doha in Qatar as a support race on 29 February 2 March.
