Nick Elliot and Dave Price took victory in the second round of the Fuchs Lubricants British Historic Rally Championship in their FIAT 131 when they won the Get Jerky Rally North Wales on 16 March.

“That’s the first one in the Fiat and the first one in a couple of years, so yeah, I’m really pleased with that,” said Elliott

Their last win in a BHRC round was the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire in 2021, since when the pair has often been the bridesmaids, even taking runner-up spot in the championship in 2023.  A measured drive allowed Elliott to build up a margin during the morning loop over the fast-flowing stages and manage his lead over the second pass, taking a well-deserved and long-awaited top score and the FIA Category K win.

Young Yorkshireman Daniel Mennell took second

“That’s the first one in the Fiat and the first one in a couple of years, so yeah, I’m really pleased with that,” said Elliott.  “As ever the pace at the front has been ferocious, with five or six drivers, all with great talent and pace but we had that little bit extra today and nicked it.  But that’s not bad for an old Fiat and not bad for an old boy like me!”

Seb Perez, returning to the Championship in a Porsche 911 with co-driver Gary McElhinny, took Category Two

The second spot went to Yorkshireman Daniel Mennell.  The young ace returned an impressively mature drive in his Ford Escort MKII despite the tricky conditions.  His result also netted him the Category Three (Cars registered from 1975 to 1981) win.

Rounding out the podium, series returnee Seb Perez in the Porsche 911, with co-driver Gary McElhinny, took Category Two (cars registered between 1968 and 1975),

But the eventual top three could have looked very different at any point of the day, as classic sections such as Dyfi, Gartheiniog and Dyfnant tested cars and crews with persistent rain on the gravel stages.
