Only recently announced, the Morocco Historic Grand Prix is scheduled to take place on 8-10 November at the new, 4.4km Sidi Daoui circuit near Casablanca.  A collaboration between the Moroccan Federation (FRMSA) and AGS Racing & Events, the grade 2 homologated circuit hopes to host races for Formula 1 from 1931 to 1965, Formula 1 from 1965 to 1985, Top Single Seaters, sports protypes and GT, and an endurance race for touring cars, as well as a round of the AGS-organised F1 90’s Time Attack series for F1 cars of 1987 to 2000.  Special guests at the event will include Jackie Ickx and Franck Montagny.

International racing in Morocco began in 1931 with the Casablanca Grand Prix and ended in 1968 with a race for sports cars on the Circuit de la Corniche.  It is no secret that Morocco would like to bring back high-level international racing to its shores and has ambitions to host the African round of the Formula One Championship. FRMSA has been working on the infrastructure of the Sidi Daoui circuit to get Grade 1 homologation.  Meanwhile it is welcoming this opportunity to see the historic cars racing there.

Willy Collignon has revived racing car manufacturers AGS (Automobiles Gonfaronnaises Sportives) based in the south of France, offering event organisation, driving experiences, coaching, workshop facilities, sales and team management for historic cars, as well as bringing the AGS cars from the company’s heyday in the 1980s back to life and racing them.  Contact maroc@agsracing.com or call +33 (0)6 8473 44 73.
