One of the UK’s premier racing clubs, Equipe Classic Racing, is launching a new F2 Atlantic series in 2024.  Featuring cars built between January 1967 and December 1978, this new combined grid will have overall winners and separate podiums for each category.  The full season will include Silverstone GP, Brands Hatch GP, Donington, Snetterton and Oulton Park.  Equipe F2 Atlantic will not be a championship so drivers can compete in as many or as few races as time and budgets allow.

FIA papers are welcome but not mandatory.  There will be a dedicated eligibility clerk and a technical passport to include FIA specification and parts used in period.

The Equipe ethos is to create vibrant clubman racing where fantastic historic racing cars can be driven on track by passionate amateur enthusiasts. Our aim is to create a community of drivers, a club feel and camaraderie in the paddock.

Rob Cull, Equipe Partner said: “We are super excited to launch this fantastic new grid into the clubman racing paddock.  The Equipe values of car preparation and high driving standards will be demanded.  These spectacular cars will bring some fantastic racing to the Equipe weekends”.

Long-time F2 driver and promoter of the category, Martin Stretton welcomed the new series, “I’m a great fan of the Equipe organisation and their philosophy.  This new, self policed series offers a terrific opportunity to enjoy their pragmatic, user friendly approach to rules, regs and racing.”

This new series, along with the new HSCC/HVM F2 Interseries will no doubt help to boost the category and bring more cars out that were unable to run in the FIA International series.

Equipe Takes over MG Live!

In another announcement Equipe Classic Racing has revealed that is has taken over the big MG Live event on the Silverstone GP circuit on 8-9 June.  After the MG Car Club took the decision to no longer organise race meetings, because of “the increasingly serious financial risks involved,’ Equipe has stepped in and taken over the date and have launched the Equipe Summer Classic.  Details of the event are promised soon, but in the meantime, Equipe has confirmed the 60th anniversary celebration of the Elan 26R with a 60-minute Elan-only race on Saturday 8 June at the event.

Open to all pre-1966 FIA Elans and 26Rs, this celebration event promises to be highly competitive to say the least.   “With a huge grid of cars including rare Elans and cars with period history already confirmed, this could be the most spectacular, closest and most exciting race of 2024,” commented Equipe’s John Pearson.

“We are really delighted to have Tony Thompson Racing as a partner on this race.  Many of you will know that Tony was one of the original Elan club racers and together with his son Eddie they have built a fantastic business supplying race parts, shells and a huge level of support and guidance for Elan racers.  We are proud to have them involved as race sponsors. For more information visit www.tonythompsonracing.co.uk.”

The 60-minute pit stop race will be for one or two drivers.  As a clubman series, Equipe does not normally allow professional drivers but exceptionally, professional drivers will be welcome and there will be separate trophies for the fastest amateur and professional.
