Aythorpe Promotions, the recently formed motorsport events business led by well-known competitor and collector Shaun Lynn, has acquired Duncan Wiltshire’s Motor Racing Legends company. The agreement will also see APL acquire the MRL flagship Donington Historic Festival.
Lynn immediately announced that a new MRL series for GT3 cars to be known as GT3 Legends, which he has created in collaboration with Jarrah Venables, will be added to the MRL mix. Eligible cars will include 2006-2012 homologated GT3 cars, with vehicles allowed to run up to 2015 specification, in three classes. First race for the new series will be on the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit on 19-20 October at MRL’s own event.
Lynn commented, “It is a privilege to be taking the reins at Motor Racing Legends. Over two decades, Duncan Wiltshire and his team at MRL have built a unique series that covers some of the finest touring car, sports car and pre-war grids in Europe. It is our hope that, through a shared passion, we can help to write the next chapter. We’re delighted that Duncan will continue to lead the business until the end of 2024.”
Wilstshire, Motor Racing Legends founder, added, “I’m thrilled that Shaun and his team will pick up the Motor Racing Legends baton. His passion for our sport is there for all to see and we know that the future of MRL is in safe hands.”
