The Launch of the 105 Cup

It started in October when a group of Alfa 105 drivers who wanted to race against other 105s rather than MGBs or Elans got together and formed the 105 Drivers Club. Suddenly there were 26 drivers committed to racing in a 105 series this year. Now, together with the HSCC they are launching the 105 Cup series for Alfa Romeo type 105 cars built between 1963 and 1977.

Alfa Romeo 105s enjoyed an illustrious racing career with the GTAs winning the European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) in 1966, ’67 and ’69, and the later GTAms, many prepared by Autodelta, winning further ETCC titles in 1970, ’71 and ’72.

The 105 Cup is for competitors participating in genuine production Alfa Romeo 105 Saloons, Spiders and Coupes built or road-registered between 01.01.1963 and 31.12.1977 in three classes: the GT class for cars with engines up to 1600, the GTV class for cars with engines up to 2000 staying very close to original specification, and the GTA class for cars modified in the spirit of the Autodelta GTAs – lighter and more powerful. Proof of original road registration is required from the UK or other country.

Initially, they will run in eight rounds within the HSCC’s existing ‘70s Roadsports series, with races at the BRDC Classic at Silverstone, Oulton Park Gold Cup and the Legends of Brands Hatch amongst others, but Series Director Nigel Musto is confident that this new series could grow into something big in the future.
