Targa Florio Classica Fantasy Island

As noted by Peter Collins in our anniversary issue, many attempts to revive the Targa Florio for historic racing have been short-lived.  Today, however, its heritage is very much alive and kicking.  Not only does the modern Targa Florio Rally, a round of the Italian Rally Championship, take in parts of the original course, but the second weekend in October also sees the Targa Florio Classica, a three-day extravaganza that runs over large chunks of the island of Sicily, including the original 150 km ‘Grande Madonie’ Targa Florio loop on Saturday.  It is one of the classic events that make up the annual Campionato Italiano Grandi Eventi.
