The Spa Six Hours and the race meeting surrounding it have been one of the most popular and prestigious events for historic racers for about as long as anyone can remember. First run in 1993, the meeting schedule changed a couple of years ago so that the Six Hour Race, always run on Saturday evening, closed the racing part of the meeting and all the qualifying and support races took place from Thursday to Saturday. This affected the atmosphere in the paddock, as the support race crews began leaving once their races were over and the excitement of the Six Hour race was missed by many. Happily, organisers have now restored the original timetable and, after a test day on Thursday, the event will run from Friday to Sunday 25-26 September, with the Six Hour race on Saturday night as its centrepiece.

Entries are now open at spasixhours.com. In a sign of the times in which people are demanding stricter regulation, organisers have added a note to their invitation to enter that reads, “In collaboration with the FIA’s Historic Car Technical department, particular attention will be paid to the technical compliance of the cars, in accordance with the Historic Technical Passport. This is in addition to the existing Mandatory Safety Equipment, which remains in effect. A specific communication on this subject will follow later.”
