On 29 March 1927, Henry Segrave drove the 1000hp Sunbeam land speed record car to 203.79 miles per hour (327.97 km/h), the first car to reach a speed over 200 mph (320 km/h). Now in the UK’s National Motor Museum, the car has been the subject of a fund- raising campaign to complete its restoration and return it to Florida for the 100th anniversary of its record-breaking run in 2027. The restoration is now well underway and will be completed in time for the twin aero-engined monster to make its first stop at the 75th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance where it will no doubt turn a lot of heads when it headlines the Special Curated Class on 17 August.
