Amongst the Portuguese National Tourism Awards (PNT) this year, the Award for the Personality of the Year was awarded posthu- mously for the first time. It went to the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve founder, the late Paulo Pinheiro, who died in August of this year. The Award by the jury of the National Tourism Award, recognises the contri- bution Pinheiro made to the development of tourism in the Algarve region. Over the last 16 years he has been responsible for the return of the MotoGP World Championship and, in 2020, of Formula 1 to Portugal.
In September this year, Pedro Machado, Secretary of State for Tourism, also awarded the Medal of Tourism Merit, Silver Degree to the greatly missed visionary and circuit founder.
