The MG Car Club’s Triple-M Register members made a triumphant Castle Combe debut Spring Speedsters event on Monday 4 May, when a superb field of 21 competitors in charismatic cars built from 1930 to 1936 finished both races. Winners were Charles Goddard (PA-PB) and Swiss visitor Roland Wettstein (K3 Parnell). Wettstein shaded Steve McEvoy who charged the Wilkie Wilkinson-built KN Bellevue special from the back of the grid to finish 0.411s behind. Driven by Ian Nickolls and Basil de Lissa respectively, both cars competed in Goodwood’s opening meeting in September 1948. That race was won by the Monaco Motors modified K3 special of Dudley Folland, which MG guru Syd Beer raced from the mid-1960s. His grandson Adrian Beer drove it to fourth at Combe 78 years on.
