The Formula Junior Historic Racing Association has announced that it has finalised the first leg of next year’s FJ Platinum Jubilee World Tour, which will consist of four back-to-back weekend events in New Zealand, entitled “Four Stars of the Southern Cross, Classic Speedfest.” In a major departure, instead of the three original events always commencing with the SKOPE meeting in Christchurch, agreement has been reached with Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell, to feature these cars as a support category at the prestigious New Zealand Grand Prix event and the summer dates have been altered to cater for this. Entries are expected from the UK, Australia, USA, Europe and of course New Zealand.
30 January-1 February NZ Grand Prix Meeting, Highlands Motorsport Park Cromwell. A premier national event, the New Zealand Grand Prix is only one of two events outside of Formula One in the world to be allowed to use the words Grand Prix, the other being Macau.
6-8 February Skope Classic, Ruapuna Park, Christchurch. New Zealand’s all-historic event, held at Euromarque Motorsport Park just outside of New Zealand’s biggest city.
13-15 February Levels Raceway Timaru, 21st Anniversary event in the South Canterbury region of the seaside town of Timaru in high summer.
20-22 February Southern Classic, Teretonga Park, Invercargill. described as, “The jewel in the racers crown, the oldest and southernmost circuit in New Zealand, Teretonga Park is without a doubt the track that all drivers love the best. Fast sweeping corners and good long straight, the place has seen nine World Champions compete here with Bruce McLaren winning five times.”
All has been arranged to make it easy to enter, with reasonably priced transport to the four venues by container for cars and spares. If you haven’t got an FJ, there is still time to get one! Contact the Formula Junior Historic Racing Association.
Formula Junior last ran a World Tour in the years 2016, ’17 and ’18 to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the series.
