Equipe Classic Racing is launching a UK race in the spirit of the Spa 6 Hours, running at Donington on Saturday 5 July. The Equipe 6 Hour will be run in the same format as the legendary Spa race with single-car, multi- driver teams for pre ‘66 GT, GTS and touring cars with the exception that GT40s will not be accepted.
Open to teams of two to four drivers there will be mandatory fuel stops with re-fuelling available from the garages to enable teams to plan and judge pit stop strategy. This premium event will be for cars with HTP or an Equipe Technical Passport. There will be class and overall awards.
John Pearson, Equipe Partner said, “We have been working on this for some time, we feel there is a big gap for a long team event in the UK. We see this as the spirit of the Spa race in the early 2000s with a closely matched grid of cars. Donington is the ideal venue with the perfect mix of challenge and distance to give close racing to all classes. The event will run into the evening and will be followed by a big party. It’s a big challenge to finish and a celebration is definitely called for. It is the same weekend as Le Mans Classic, which is unfortunate, but we felt strongly Donington was the right venue, and this was the only weekend available.”
Priority will be given to existing Equipe members after which places will be available on a first come basis to UK and international teams. Professional drivers are allowed, but a full professional team will not be accepted. Ten places out of a total possible 40 are already taken.
