Bonhams annual Revival sale was held on the Saturday afternoon of the meeting with the cars remaining on display for the whole event and produced mixed results. Of the competition cars a previously Belgian owned 1932 Type Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Corto Spider made in the workshops of Jim Stokes realised a mid-estimate £552,000. One of the two featured 1930’s MGs, a 1934 NE Magnette with Brooklands and Ulster TT period history did not sell, but the 1933 Magnette K3 Supercharged two-seater considered to be the car driven by Tazio Nuvolari in that year’s Ulster TT and also saw use by Capt. George Eyston and ‘Johnny’ Lurani among others sold for £525,000.
From an earlier era the 1922 GN ‘Akela’, one of three works cars so named, successful in that years Brooklands 200 mile race, found a new custodian for £152,950. One of Alan Mann’s beautifully prepared Ford Escorts driven in 1968-69 by Graham Hill, Jackie Oliver and Peter Arundell and later by BP Belgium’s Yvette Fontaine, found a new owner for £195,500. A well-documented 1957 AC Ace Roadster with hardtop changed hands for £230,000. Top seller was a 1988 Porsche 911 Type 993 Turbo Coupe known as ‘The Last Waltz’, which found a buyer at £614,200, still below estimate. Top seller in the automobilia section was £25,600 paid for a Sterling Silver 1:12 scale model of UU 5872, a Tim Birkin ‘Blower’ Bentley by made by Gil Holt in 2020.
