After a shakedown for the 50 crews and the huge street party in the centre of Bastogne that surrounds this popular event, tragedy struck the Boucles a Bastogne on the second day, Sunday, 1 February, when a competitor’s car on one of the regularity tests left the road and struck a spectator. Despite a rapid intervention by the medical team, they were unable to save the spectator’s life. An inquest into the exact circumstances of the accident is taking place.

The event was immediately stopped and winners in each category were declared on the results before the stoppage, though no prizegiving ceremony took place.
