30 Years and Counting

It’s hard to imagine now, even for us who lived it, but when Historic Motor Racing News was founded, there was no internet, no email, no online banking.  Everything moved more slowly and with more effort (see Jason Wright’s piece on page 56 of our October issue).  How did racers in Italy find out what races were on offer in the UK?  How did French competitors go about entering the Oldtimer Grand Prix in Germany?  How to contact the organisers to get an entry?  Where can I find someone to tune my Lotus Elite?  Who is the best tuner?  What are this year’s regs for the  European Rally Championship, and where can I get a copy?   In the beginning Historic Motor Racing News was the only source where all the information could be had in one place.

Now, with all this information available online, we still like to think it is convenient for our readers to have everything they need in one publication.  And we like to think that we are bringing information and reports, news and views by and for competitors, organisers and preparers.  We have no aspirations to attract the general public.  We only care about the people and organisations that are actively involved in the sport.

As part of the continuing celebrations of our 30th Anniversary, we bring you some stories, insights and comments from those who have shared the road with us, and some who are looking forward to the next 30 years in our October issue…
